Introducing Raymond Tunoa-Scanlan

Dry January® USA Ambassador

Raymond is a dental student at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in the class of 2027. While originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, he has lived all over the country due to his family’s military background, but calls North Carolina home. He completed his undergraduate studies at East Carolina University where he obtained a BA in Biology and a BS in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health. During his time as a student, he assisted the Department of Public Health with a research study focused on alcohol usage behaviors among patrons in Downtown Greenville. He also completed a research internship with the ECU School of Dental Medicine focused on assessing the humanistic climate of the institution.

Raymond’s biggest achievement in life is getting married to his beautiful wife, Margaret. They have been volunteering and studying together as a team since they met their freshmen year at ECU.

They both met Dr. Caldwell when they decided to volunteer at a Dry January® USA event. His passion for public health, kindness, and overall desire to make an impact on our communities attracted Raymond to working with him. Together, they have supported Dry January® USA initiatives and helped to spread awareness of the effects alcohol has on oral health.
