Dry January is kind of like…getting a new outfit at the mall

We all go through that situation where we open our closet doors and suddenly we realize we don’t want to wear that bright orange tracksuit anymore or that those black skinny jeans are so out of season. We’ll end up getting rid of those clothes over time and that means it’s time for a trip to the mall to get a new outfit.

Getting a new outfit can be the best decision you’ve ever made. It can also be scary because now you’re taking a chance on yourself and trying something that neither you, your family, or your friends have never seen you in. In the words of an old professor, change is hard. But those who have accepted that change have the propensity for growth and embrace fear of the unknown.

So why is the mall so important in today’s post? This past January, our team had the amazing opportunity to present Dry January to thousands of shoppers at the Mall at GreenHills here in Nashville. Partnered up with Lyres, we provided people with resources to learn more about the Dry January as well as some tasty samples. Some people embraced non alcoholic beverages. Others were apprehensive but eventually were pleasantly surprised at how the products from Lyres really tasted like their favorite alcoholic drinks. Some didn’t want to try them at all but to that I say that’s ok. Giving up alcohol is like getting a new outfit. You might not want to try something new today but know the mall (or in our case, Dry January) is here for you all year long (not just January).

Our experience at the Mall at GreenHills was eye opening and one of the coolest events for our team. From handing out samples to mall shoppers to explaining the vast history of Meharry, it felt great to spread awareness and bring attention to the beautiful partnership between Meharry and Lyres. We hope to be back next year so stay tune for our upcoming events and give us a follow at dryjanuary_usa. And try to make this year the one where you try that new outfit 😉.
